Beijing Gold is a small deciduous tree grown for creamy yellow, fragrant early-summer flowers and peeling cinnamon-colored bark. Golden fall foliage adds a second season of interest after bloom.
## Garden character
The [Morton Arboretum profile](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/beijing-gold-peking-lilac/) identifies this selection as *Syringa pekinensis* ‘Zhang Zhiming’ and describes creamy-yellow flowers, cinnamon-colored peeling bark, and yellow fall color. Its published mature size is 15–20 feet tall and 10–15 feet wide; retain awareness that mature form varies with site and age.
## Siting
Morton recommends full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil, with tolerance of acidic or alkaline conditions and moderate drought once established. This flowering tree can serve as a specimen or broad hedge where there is room for its mature crown. Its flowers attract pollinators.
## Maintenance
Water regularly while the tree establishes, then during prolonged dry weather. Prune immediately after flowering if shaping is needed, so the developing flower buds for the next season are not removed.
