About Minuet Lilac

Minuet is a compact, dense lilac cultivar selected for pale lavender-to-pink flowers and a restrained garden habit. Its flowers appear in late spring or early summer, extending the lilac display beyond many common lilacs. ## Garden character The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/57315/syringa-minuet/details) accepts the name *Syringa* ‘Minuet’ and describes pale-purple fragrant flowers, a compact habit, and an approximate 1–1.5-metre height. [Cornell’s cultivar record](https://woodyplants.cals.cornell.edu/cultivar/12031) lists Minuet among Preston lilacs and describes a dense plant about 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide with light, white-pink flowers. These sources differ in size and color wording, so retain the named selection rather than treating one profile as universal. ## Siting Grow in full sun with well-drained soil; the RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand with moist but well-drained conditions. Its compact form suits a mixed border or smaller garden. ## Maintenance Water regularly while establishing. Prune only as needed immediately after flowering, because later pruning can remove the next season’s flower buds.
