About Pink Trumpet Tree

Pink trumpet tree (Tabebuia heterophylla) is a moderate-growing tropical tree with an open crown and clusters of trumpet-shaped pink to white flowers. UF/IFAS describes flowering in spring and summer, with green compound leaves that may briefly drop as new foliage emerges. ## Form and flowering Young trees have a slim pyramidal outline that broadens with age. Published Florida profiles describe mature trees about 20 to 30 feet tall and 15 to 25 feet wide; leave room for the spreading crown. The tree is partly deciduous, and its flowers are followed by long, narrow seed pods. ## Siting Plant in full sun. UF/IFAS lists clay, sand, and loam soils when well drained and describes the tree for specimens, streets, patios, and parking areas. Its profile gives USDA zones 10A through 11. Give the crown room and prune young trees to develop sound structure. ## Maintenance Provide regular irrigation during establishment. Established trees are highly drought tolerant, according to [UF/IFAS Extension](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/ST616). Consult local extension guidance where winter temperatures approach the lower end of the listed range.
