Green Mountain® silver linden is the named selection Tilia tomentosa ‘PNI 6051’. It develops a dense, broadly pyramidal to oval canopy, with dark green leaves whose silvery undersides flash in the wind. Its substantial mature size makes it suited to a spacious lawn, park, or broad street-tree planting.
## Size and siting
The grower’s cultivar listing gives a mature height of about 45 feet, a spread of 35 feet, and USDA zone 5. Choose an open site with room for the canopy and keep it clear of overhead wires and structures. The Morton Arboretum notes that this clone grows faster than the species and is more tolerant of heat and drought, useful traits once the tree is established. [J. The silver leaf undersides are especially visible when breezes move through the crown. As the tree matures, its dense canopy provides shade and a strong vertical presence; allow adequate root and branch space rather than treating it as a small yard tree.
## Maintenance
Water regularly during establishment and during prolonged drought. Prune in the dormant season to remove damaged or crossing branches and maintain a strong framework, making structural cuts before the canopy becomes difficult to reach.
