About Campestre palm

Campestre palm (*Trithrinax campestris*), also called Caranday palm or blue needle palm, begins as a cluster of leaves and slowly develops one or more spiny, fibre-covered trunks. Its tough grey-green leaves divide into narrow spine-tipped segments, giving mature plants a strong architectural presence. ## Size and season The RHS lists a maximum height range of 4–8 m and spread of 1.5–2.5 m; converted ranges are approximately 13.1–26.2 ft and 4.9–8.2 ft. Mature plants may bear clusters of white flowers in autumn, followed by yellow fruit the next summer. ## Maintenance Plant in full sun and well-drained chalk, loam or sandy soil. The RHS describes this palm as drought-resistant and wind-tolerant, while advising protection from hard winter frosts. It grows very slowly, so allow room for the eventual spiny spread and avoid close access routes.
