Its upright flower stems make a colorful middle layer in a perennial bed, and the clumping habit keeps the plant easy to place. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the flowers; both the blooms and foliage are fragrant. ## Maintenance Give it rich, moist soil and steady water while it establishes. Ordinary garden soil is also suitable, and part shade is tolerated. Leave room for air movement around the clump to help prevent disease, and remove faded flower heads for a tidier display.
