'Variegata' Swedish ivy is a trailing Plectranthus grown for its scalloped green leaves edged in cream-white. Purple flowers appear in spring and summer, but the plant is chiefly used for its fragrant foliage and cascading habit. ## Placement and use
Use it as a spiller in a hanging basket, patio pot, or mixed container, or let it trail along a border edge. Proven Winners lists part sun to sun and USDA zones 9a–10b. Its published mature dimensions are 6–18 inches tall and 18–30 inches wide, with trailing stems reaching farther; the current numeric dimensions and labels fit within those ranges.
## Seasonal interest
The foliage supplies the strongest color through the growing season. The spring and summer flowers are purple, while the cream margins brighten the leaf pattern. RHS records the same selection under the synonymous botanical name *Plectranthus coleoides* 'Variegatus' and the common name Variegated Mintleaf.
## Maintenance
Grow in moist but not waterlogged, well-drained soil. Pinch or trim stems as needed to control length and keep the container balanced; Proven Winners says deadheading is not necessary. Protect the plant from cold outside its listed zones, or bring a container indoors before frost.
