Variegated Spider Plant is the accepted cultivar *Chlorophytum comosum* ‘Variegatum’, a clump-forming evergreen with narrow green leaves edged in white. Small white flowers appear on arching stems and may be followed by plantlets. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/91043/chlorophytum-comosum-variegatum-v/details) gives broad height and spread ranges of 0.1–0.5 m and recommends frost-free growing conditions.
## Placement and Growing Conditions
Grow this selection in a pot or hanging basket in partial shade or bright indirect light. Its arching evergreen leaves form a rounded clump, and the white margins give the foliage interest even when the plant is not flowering. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sandy soils, with moisture kept moist but well-drained. Indoors, use a free-draining houseplant mix and a container with drainage holes. The catalog’s existing height and width labels sit within the documented mature-size ranges, so they are retained.
## Flowers and Propagation
Small white flowers form on slender arching racemes; plantlets may develop among the flowers. Root plantlets in potting mix or divide an established clump to make new plants. [North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/chlorophytum-comosum-variegatum/) describes the white-margined leaves, container use, and propagation by offsets.
## Maintenance
Water when the upper layer of potting mix begins to dry, and allow excess water to drain freely. Move the plant indoors before frost and grow it under glass or in a frost-free setting. The RHS lists no pruning requirement; remove spent or damaged leaves at the base and divide the clump when its roots crowd the pot.
