Create design onlineAbout Mars Seedless Seedless Blue Grape
Mars is a vigorous seedless grape whose berries change from crimson to deep blue as they mature. Its slipskin fruit resists cracking and can remain on the vine for an extended harvest.
## In the garden
Provide a sunny site and a strong trellis, arbor, or fence for this trailing vine. The [cultivar profile](https://doubleavineyards.com/products/mars-grapevine-standard) lists USDA zones 5–8 and describes Mars as a mid-season grape. Its fruit is used for table eating, juice, jelly, and wine.
## Growing conditions
As a Vitis grape, it is a deciduous climber with small green flowers, as described in the [RHS Vitis profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/19033/vitis-labrusca/details).
Plant in well-drained soil and give the vine room for its long shoots. Minnesota Extension recommends full sun, regular irrigation while young, and supplemental watering for established vines during drought. Air movement around the canopy helps with routine grapevine care.
## Maintenance
Prune annually before spring growth and train canes along the support. Ripening grapes attract birds, so protect fruit as it colors if birds are a problem. The [Minnesota grape-growing guide](https://extension.umn.edu/fruit/growing-grapes-home-garden) covers home-garden pruning, support, and watering.
