Tara is a self-fertile bronze muscadine developed for fresh-market fruit. Its large berries ripen early, and the University of Georgia reports that Tara produces well while noting that flavor can vary within and between seasons.
### Vine and growing conditions
This deciduous climbing grape needs a sturdy trellis, fence, or overhead support, with enough room to train its permanent arms. Plant in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Small greenish-yellow and white flowers bloom in May and June; bronze berries ripen in fall, with Tara listed as an early cultivar. Muscadines grow in many soil types where drainage is good.
### Uses
Tara is suited to fresh eating and home-garden fruit production. Its self-fertile flowers mean one vine can produce fruit without a second pollinizer cultivar.
## Maintenance
Train the trunk and cordons onto the support and prune side shoots during dormancy so the vine remains manageable and productive. Water during dry periods while young; established muscadines tolerate drought.
