Create design onlineAbout White Pillar® Columnar Rose of Sharon
White Pillar® rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Gandini van Aart') is a deciduous shrub with a naturally narrow, upright outline and semi-double white flowers in summer. At 10–16 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide, it brings flowering color to tight spaces where a broad shrub would crowd a path or window. [Proven Winners ColorChoice](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/product/white-pillar-rose-of-sharon/) identifies the cultivar and its garden dimensions; the [Canadian Plant Breeders’ Rights record](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/ross/app00010843e.shtml) confirms the denomination and White Pillar trade name.
## Landscape Use
Use the columnar habit as a vertical accent, beside an entry, or in a narrow screen or hedge. Leave enough room for the mature 4–5-foot spread. The flowers add summer interest, while the upright stems keep the plant visually compact.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun for the heaviest flowering; it also grows in part sun. Choose well-drained soil. Water regularly while the shrub establishes, then reduce supplemental watering after the first year if conditions allow.
## Maintenance
Routine pruning is unnecessary. If shaping is needed, prune in early spring. This cultivar flowers on new wood, so spring shaping leaves the season’s flowering growth intact.
