ʻĀkia

ʻĀkia is a densely branching, spreading shrub endemic to Hawaiʻi, with small, firm green leaves, fragrant yellow-green tubular flowers and, on fruiting plants, yellow to red berries. It thrives in sunny, well-drained coastal and dry lowland sites and can be trained as a low hedge or ground cover. Established plants tolerate drought, wind and salt spray. The sap may irritate skin and eyes, and plant material may be toxic; keep it away from children and pets.
