Iliau is a distinctive Kauaʻi-endemic shrub in the silversword alliance. A slender, usually unbranched stem carries a crown of long, narrow, pale green leaves with a silvery cast. After several years it produces a large, branched display of cream to greenish-white flower heads, sets seed and dies. It grows on open, dry ridges and in sunny, well-drained gardens with little water once established.
