Winecraft Gold® Smokebush

Winecraft Gold® is a compact smokebush with foliage that opens orange, turns golden, and matures chartreuse, followed by airy summer plumes. Proven Winners describes a mature 4–6 ft height and spread, part sun to sun, and USDA zones 5a–8b; the plant patent identifies the cultivar as ‘MINCOJAU3’. The dense oval form and bright foliage suit a sunny or lightly shaded border, a mass planting, or a specimen where the changing leaf color can be seen. ## Growing conditions Give this deciduous shrub part sun to full sun in average garden soil. Proven Winners reports average water needs and notes deer resistance. Its published mature size is about 1.2–1.8 m tall and wide. ## Maintenance Smokebush blooms on old wood, so avoid routine hard pruning if flowers and plumes are wanted. Remove damaged or crossing branches selectively; pruning for a smaller, denser foliage effect can reduce flowering the following season.
