White Wisteria is the white-flowered selection Longissima Alba, with long, fragrant flower clusters in spring. It makes a graceful flowering focal point when trained as a small tree or supported on a strong garden structure.
## Growing conditions
Japanese wisteria grows best in full sun and moist but well-drained soil. Allow room for its vigorous stems, and provide a sturdy support for the trained framework. [Morton Arboretum describes Longissima Alba’s white flowers and Japanese wisteria care](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/japanese-wisteria/).
## Garden use
Plant where the hanging white clusters can be enjoyed from a path, patio, or garden room. The long flower clusters can reach 18–24 inches and are best displayed where they hang freely.
## Maintenance
Prune twice yearly to keep growth in bounds and maintain flowering: shorten excess shoots in summer, then prune again in winter. Use strong supports and keep seeds and other plant parts away from children and pets. [RHS pruning guidance](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/wisteria/pruning-guide).
