Create design onlineAbout Summer Cascade™ Kentucky Wisteria
Summer Cascade™ Wisteria is a twining flowering vine with long, light-purple racemes that open in June on new growth. It can cover an arbor or pergola and produces ornamental seed pods later in summer. [First Editions](https://firsteditionsplants.com/product/summer-cascade-wisteria/)
### Placement and season
Choose full sun and provide sturdy support for the woody stems. The breeder gives a mature height of 15–20 feet and notes that spread varies; its hardiness range is USDA zones 4–8. Its foliage is bright green, flowers are fragrant, and the selection is deer resistant.
### Soil and water
The RHS profile lists moist but well-drained soils and the soil textures chalk, clay, loam, and sand. The First Editions profile rates watering as medium. A sunny support structure lets the clusters hang freely and keeps the vine’s growth directed. [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/375471/wisteria-frutescens-summer-cascade/details)
## Maintenance
Prune in early spring to shape the vine and encourage flowering on new growth. Maintain a strong arbor, pergola, or trellis as the stems mature. Fragrant flower clusters and late-summer pods extend the ornamental season.
