Blue Moon™ is the named selection Wisteria macrostachya 'Blue Moon', a Kentucky wisteria with a vigorous twining habit. Its fragrant blue to purple flower clusters begin in late spring and may repeat through summer after establishment. Plan for a mature climber about 15–25 ft long and 4–8 ft wide, and choose its permanent support before planting.
## Placement & Growth
Give this vine full sun for better flowering and well-drained soil. A sturdy arbor, pergola, or trellis can carry its woody stems; allow room for a large climber and avoid a site where it will need to be moved once established. [The Missouri Botanical Garden](https://plantfinder.mobot.org/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=265854) notes that Kentucky wisteria can be slow to establish and needs a strong support.
## Flowering
The exact selection may flower more than once through the growing season, though timing and repeat blooms vary with climate and establishment. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/258471/wisteria-blue-moon/details) lists this selection as a summer-flowering climber.
## Maintenance
After flowering, prune tangled or excess growth and check ties and supports as stems thicken. If flowering is sparse, review pruning timing and fertilizer: poor pruning or overfertilizing can favor leafy growth over flowers. Wisteria is harmful if eaten, so keep its seeds and other parts away from children and pets. [Jordan Valley Conservation Garden Park](https://conservationgardenpark.jvwcd.gov/plants/1652/blue-moon-wisteria) gives pruning guidance for this selection, and the [Morton Arboretum](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/kentucky-wisteria/) describes training, pruning, and sturdy support for Kentucky wisteria.
