Yezberry® Maxie™ is a compact, deciduous Japanese haskap shrub valued for its large, edible blue berries and very early spring flowers. Proven Winners recommends planting another Yezberry® variety within about 50 feet to support abundant fruit production.
## Form and Flowering
The mounded shrub grows about 5–6 feet tall and wide, with green foliage and yellow flowers on old wood in early spring. Blue berries ripen in early summer. The [Proven Winners Maxie plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/lonicera/yezberry-maxie-japanese-haskap-lonicera-caerulea) identifies this cultivar as Lonicera caerulea ‘Kuchi’ and lists its hardiness and care details.
## Siting
Plant in full sun or part shade, leaving room for its mature spread and a compatible Yezberry pollinator nearby. The plant tolerates a range of soil types and pH. Water new shrubs while they establish, then maintain even moisture during fruit development.
## Maintenance
Allow good air circulation around the shrub. If pruning is needed, do it after harvest to preserve the older wood that carries the early flowers. Harvest berries when blue and taste a sample for sweetness before picking the rest.
