Create design onlineAbout Yezberry Sugar Pie® Japanese Haskap
Yezberry Sugar Pie® is a compact Japanese haskap bred for flavorful blue fruit and an especially small habit. Its spring flowers are among the first to open, and a nearby Yezberry® cultivar can help both plants produce a better crop.
## Flowers and fruit
Proven Winners describes rounded plants about 3–4 feet tall and wide, with yellow honeysuckle-like flowers followed by elongated blue berries for fresh eating or processing. The selection is listed for USDA Zones 3–7, in full sun or part sun, and is described as deer resistant. Its botanical selection is ‘Hoka’ (USPP 28,593; Canadian registration 6135).
## Siting and pollination
Give the plant at least four hours of direct sun for flowering and fruit, with afternoon shade where needed to protect fruit from scorching. It grows in a range of soils and performs best with consistent moisture for a good harvest. Plant another Yezberry® variety with overlapping bloom nearby.
## Maintenance
Keep soil evenly moist during fruit development, especially in dry weather. If you need to shape the shrub, prune after harvest; light thinning can be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
