About Narrowleaf yucca

Narrowleaf yucca (Yucca angustissima) forms a rosette of stiff, narrow evergreen leaves and sends up a spring stalk of white bell-shaped flowers. The [Yavapai County plant record](https://yavapaiplants.extension.arizona.edu/yucca-angustissima) lists a height and spread of 3 feet and flowering from March through June. ## Form and Season Its basal leaves are light green, narrow, and reported at 7 to 24 inches long. A flower stalk rises from the center of the rosette, with white flowers that may show pink to purple while in bud. The recorded native settings include pinyon-juniper woodland, montane conifer forest, interior chaparral, and grassland. ## Garden Placement The plant record notes stiff leaves with spines. Place the rosette where its pointed foliage will not intrude on a walkway or a frequently used sitting area. Its compact rosette and evergreen form make it a structural accent when the sharp leaves can be given adequate clearance. ## Maintenance Wear gloves when working near the leaves and keep the flower stalk clear of nearby foot traffic. Choose a position that gives the mature rosette room to expand while keeping the stiff leaf tips away from regular foot traffic.
