Create design onlineAbout Curve-leaf Yucca
Curve-leaf yucca is an evergreen shrub with rosettes of sword-like leaves and upright clusters of cream-white flowers. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:543767-1) treats the county's Yucca recurvifolia as a synonym of Yucca gloriosa var. tristis. This is the recurved-leaved variety, separate from a general Yucca gloriosa profile or named variegated cultivars.
[Cambridge University Botanic Garden](https://www.botanic.cam.ac.uk/the-garden/plant-list/yucca-gloriosa-var-tristis/) describes plants reaching around 2.5 m, growing best in sun and well-drained or sandy soil. Shelter it from persistently cold, wet conditions. Give rosettes room to expand, and place their sharp leaf tips away from narrow access routes. Remove dead leaves and old flower stalks so dry material does not build up.
The [San Luis Obispo County January 2014 plant list](https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/forms-documents/environmental-forms-and-documents/plants-information/county-approved-plant-list) names Yucca recurvifolia and assigns F2. F2 identifies its most fire-retardant plants for the 30–70-foot band from a structure. The rating does not guarantee low combustibility or survival of an individual plant. The county requires suitable moisture, uncrowded and separated planting groups, removal of dead material and prevention of ground-to-canopy fuel connections.
