About Raven ZZ Plant

Raven ZZ Plant is the dark-leaved selection of Zamioculcas zamiifolia, valued for upright stems and glossy, nearly black leaflets. Its slow, clumping growth and tolerance of dry indoor conditions make it a dependable foliage plant for rooms with indirect light. ### Growing conditions Place it in bright indirect light or partial shade; it also tolerates deeper shade, though growth may be slower. Use a freely draining potting mix and let the soil dry between waterings, since persistently wet compost can damage the rhizomes. The species profile lists container and houseplant uses and describes a slow-growing, drought-tolerant plant; see [North Carolina State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/zamioculcas-zamiifolia/) and the [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/44088/zamioculcas-zamiifolia/details). ### Seasonal interest Raven is grown for its foliage rather than showy flowers. New leaves emerge light green and deepen to the characteristic dark tone as they mature, so the plant can show more than one foliage color at once. Keep it away from cold drafts and avoid overwatering during slower growth. ## Maintenance Remove yellowing leaflets and wipe dust from the foliage with a damp cloth. Repot only when crowded, using a container with drainage holes; allow the mix to dry between waterings and reduce watering in cooler, darker months.
