Create design onlineAbout Zinfin Doll® Panicle hydrangea
Zinfin Doll® is a moderate-sized panicle hydrangea with sturdy stems and large, conical flower clusters that open white, then turn pink from the base upward and deepen to dark pink in fall. At about 4.5–6 feet tall and wide, it brings a long summer display and late-season color to mixed borders, small beds, and containers.
## Garden use
Place it in full sun or part sun; in warmer zones it can benefit from afternoon shade. Its upright, somewhat outward-spreading habit and sturdy stems help keep the flower heads visible through wind and rain. Use it in borders, hedges, mass plantings, containers, or cut-flower gardens. The breeder lists USDA zones 3–8 and a mature range of 4.5–6 feet in both height and spread ([Proven Winners ColorChoice](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/product/zinfin-doll-hardy-hydrangea/)).
## Growing conditions
Provide moist soil that drains well and avoid extended sogginess. The breeder describes average water needs and lists clay and alkaline-soil tolerance; soil pH does not change the flower color. Its foliage is green during the growing season. Panicle hydrangea is deciduous and flowers on new growth, as described by [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hydrangea-paniculata/).
## Maintenance
For this cultivar, the breeder recommends early-spring pruning: remove weak stems in the center and reduce height and width by about one-third, cutting just above a bud. Dead or damaged wood may be removed as needed. The selection is identified as ‘SMNHPRZEP’ in the [U.S. plant patent record](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP26956), issued July 19, 2016.
