Honey Jar is a precocious Chinese jujube selection known for small, round, very sweet fruit with a crisp texture. The fruit is especially good fresh and can also be dried; the tree carries glossy deciduous foliage and small fragrant flowers.
## Growing Conditions
Grow in full sun and well-drained soil. Jujubes tolerate sandy, loamy, and clay soils, and established trees withstand dry conditions. [One Green World’s Honey Jar profile](https://onegreenworld.com/product/honey-jar-jujube/) describes the selection’s fruit and gives a USDA range of 5–10; [New Mexico State University’s guide](https://pubs.nmsu.edu/_h/H330/) explains the species’ cultivar-dependent form and broad soil tolerance.
## Seasonal Interest
The species generally leafs out in March or April, flowers between May and July, and ripens fruit from August to October, depending on location. Small pale greenish-yellow flowers are fragrant and attract pollinators.
## Maintenance
Prune periodically to maintain a useful canopy and support fruiting. In dry climates, irrigation can help improve fruit set and yield, although established jujubes tolerate drought.
