Zuzu® Ornamental Cherry

Zuzu® is a compact ornamental cherry, Prunus incisa 'Rinpo', with a dense branching habit and soft pink spring flowers. Spring Meadow Nursery identifies Brian Upchurch of Fletcher, North Carolina, as the breeder and lists a mature size of about 5–8 feet tall by 3–5 feet wide, with a preference for full or part sun. [The nursery profile](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/zuzu-60230) also notes that the plant is deciduous and flowers on old wood. ## Seasonal character Pink, powderpuff-like blossoms cover the branches in spring, followed by green summer foliage. Its compact size suits a small garden, entry, or mixed shrub border where a flowering tree is wanted without a large canopy. The plant's scale and rounded outline make it useful as a focal specimen or as a repeated accent along a path. ## Growing conditions Provide full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. The source lists USDA Zones 5–8; performance can vary near zone boundaries and with local exposure. Avoid persistently waterlogged sites. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and during prolonged dry weather. Because flowers form on old wood, wait until after flowering if pruning is needed. Remove only misplaced or damaged branches to maintain the natural dense form.
