About Walker's Low Catmint

Walker’s Low catmint is a long-flowering, aromatic perennial with soft silvery-green leaves and lavender-blue to dark blue-mauve flowers. It suits sunny or lightly shaded borders, where flowering can continue from spring through fall when spent blooms are trimmed. [RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/210480/nepeta-%C3%97-faassenii-walkers-low/details) · [NC State Extension profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/nepeta-x-faassenii-walkers-low/common-name/catmint/) ## Garden use Use this catmint along a path, at the front or middle of a mixed border, or in a wildlife planting. Its fragrant foliage and flowers attract pollinators, while its loose flowering stems soften neighboring plants. Depending on site and care, it may form a rounded mound or spread more openly. Allow about 18–36 inches for its mature spread. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. It tolerates dry, rocky ground once established; afternoon shade can help in hot, humid southern conditions. The leaves are aromatic, and deer generally browse it less than many garden plants, though resistance is not absolute. ## Seasonal display Lavender-blue flower spikes appear from spring into fall, especially when faded stems are cut back. The plant is deciduous, so its silvery-green foliage is seasonal rather than evergreen. ## Maintenance Trim or shear after the first flush of flowers to keep the plant tidy and encourage repeat bloom. Divide in spring when needed. Water new plants while they establish, then avoid persistently wet soil.
